President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to take stance measures against any act of indiscipline from Assistant Directors to Directors level.
The head of Service, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita who informed the civil servants in Abuja during a meeting with Directorate Level Officers in her office Wedmesday, sounded the warning of the President to them.
Oyo-Ita informed, “Federal government will not tolerate any act of indiscipline from any civil servant particularly a situation when workers form the habit of reporting to work late and closing before the official time of 4.00 pm, Mondays to Fridays.”
She said, “A directive has already been issued to apply appropriate sanctions to the erring officers according to the Public Service Rules.”
The Head of Service said that all civil servants must begin to work as a team in order to restore the service to the part of honour and integrity while she added the lost gory can only be restored if the civil servant adheres strictly to the Public Service Culture that enshrines discipline, due process and code of ethics in the conduct of government business.
She said that as machinery for the delivery of good governance, “The civil service deserves the greatest attention and that is why concerted efforts is being made by government not only to identify areas of weakness of the service.”
Oyo-Ita expressed confidence with the calibre of officers serving in the Federal Civil Service today, added further that they should bring their wealth of experience to bear by exploring vigorous measures to make the service a truly enduring and supportive institution which will help drive the change agenda of the present administration.
She said that time has now come for all the civil servants in the country to be EPIC by having a new orientation of being efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centred.
She further said that the new civil servant should have the mindset that citizens have a right to services, to be treated equally and fairly by their Government, and to expect transparency in the process and to hold the civil servant accountable for government’s performance.
