The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has today, December 16, upheld the ruling of the tribunal which nullified the election of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.

In a 110-page ruling delivered by Justice M.B. Dongban-Mensem the court ruled that Wike’s election did not conform to the stipulations of the Electoral Act.
The court therefore has ordered a rerun in 90 days.
The tribunal headed by Justice Suleiman Ambrosa had in a judgment on October 24, 2015, nullified Wike’s election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election.
Wike had challenged the verdict of the tribunal, as he filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, asking the court to set aside the judgment of the Rivers state governorship election tribunal which voided his election.
