A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was
reported Wednesday morning one mile from Banning, east of Riverside,
according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:42
a.m. at a depth of 0.6 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was five miles from Beaumont, nine miles from Yucaipa and 12 miles from San Jacinto.
The shaking triggered countless burglary alarms for businesses in the area, but there were no reports of damage, Banning police said.
