A housewife, Aisha Ibrahim, on Monday sought a separation from her husband, Nuhu, before a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, over lack of care. At the hearing, Aisha, 28, told the court that she got married to her Nuhu sometime in 2014 according to Islamic rite. She said that she had been solely responsible for her up-keep and that of the only child of the marriage since she married her husband about two years ago.
‘’My husband lives in Suleja because of his work and he has failed to perform his responsibility of taking care of me and my eight months’ old baby. “When l gave birth to my baby, we took ill and we were admitted at Wuse General Hospital. My sister had to pay N40,000 for the medical bill because my husband did not show up at the hospital.
“I want this court to dissolve the marriage because he cannot take proper care of me and I have lost interest in the marriage. “I also want the court to order him to take full responsibility of paying for my daughter’s upkeep,” she said. In his reactions, Nuhu, the 35-year-old husband, said that he was not ready to divorce his wife and debunked the allegations against him by his wife as false. “I am a generator repairer, though, it does not yield much money, I do my best to take care of my family.
“I did not visit her in the hospital because I was not having money on me then and her parents understood my plight. “On this issue of divorce, my parents-in–law have advised my wife to exercise some patience, but she is still adamant of divorcing me. “I don’t want to divorce my wife, I still love her,” Ibrahim said.
He urged the court to plead with his wife on his behalf to allow for settlement. The judge, Owuna Musa, adjourned the case till Jan. 29 for a report on the settlement sought by Nuhu.
