Armed
men suspected to be robbers on Tuesday shot and killed two policemen at
the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) office in Umuagwo area of
Imo state.

There was a reported pandemonium and tragedy yesterday at the Niger
Delta Development Commission (NDDC) office in Umuagwo in Ohaji/Egbema
local government area of Imo state as unknown armed men suspected to be
robbers, shot and killed two policemen – an inspector and a corporal
while on official duty.
A witness told News Agency of Nigeria that the police officers were
over powered by the armed men and shot after their rifles were seized,
and that the attackers later escaped with the riffles.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo police command,
Andrew Enwerem, when contacted, confirmed the incident and explained
that the two officers were shot while on duty.
"Today, we got a report that two of our men were killed by armed hoodlums while on duty at the NDDC office at Umuagwo," he said.
The PPRO, who did not disclose the names of the deceased, said that
two suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident while
investigation was ongoing.
